Kaleenah Edwards – great-granddaughter of the late Kath Walker / Oodgeroo Noonuccal (1920-1993)

The Quandamooka People have been Traditional Owners of much of the area we now call Redlands Coast for more than 21,000 years.

The Quandamooka People represent three distinct tribes: the Nughie of Moorgumpin (Moreton Island) and the Noonuccal and Gorenpul of Minjerribah.

Redland Museum looks back on a very special event held in 2017 when Kaleenah Edwards visited the museum, during school holidays as our special Quandamooka guest. She related stories of Stradbroke dreamtime through movement and storytelling about land, fresh water and salt water animals, and dream time hero’s.

Kaleenah is the great granddaughter of the late Kath Walker / Oodgeroo Noonuccal (1920-1993), famous local author of Stradbroke Dreamtime. That same year Kaleenah toured with the Queensland Theatre Company performing the Stradbroke Dreamtime play. The Redland Museum felt very honoured that Kaleenah performed to a group of very enthusiastic children and their carers, we were certainly very lucky indeed to have such a special guest.
